Polis Chrysochous Archaeological Museum

In ancient times Polis Chrysochous was called Marion. Marion was a florishing city during the 7th until the 5th centure B.C. mainly because it was the place where the copper - used for the famous Greek sculptures - was found, traded and shipped. In the third century it was ruled by Ptolemeus II, a cousin of Alexander the Great. He renamed the city Arsinoe, after his wife's name. After that period, the city was governed by Romans, Byzantine Emperors, The Franks, the Ottomans and many other invadors of Cyprus. The local Archeological Museum and various excavations in the area show clear evidence of the rich history of this area.
